Montana fly fishing is legendary. Montana is home to some of the finest trout water in the world with the Missouri River at Craig, Montana as it's centerpiece.I am very excited about the upcoming fishing season here on the Missouri and if the early season snows are any indication, we should have plenty of water for the summer 2013.
The section of the Missouri river upstream from Craig, Montana is currently supporting a record number of catch-able rainbow and brown trout according the the biologists from Montana department of Fish and Wildlife. Mine is from the perspective of an avid Missouri River fly fisher and fly tier. I have fished these water since 1983 and still do-frequently. I prefer to fish the waters where I guide clients and then teach and coach folks on the basis of has worked for me.
I guess I'm an old school guide and I'm quite happy with that description. I still tie a lot of my own flies and I use these patterns on my guide trips. I like to encourage anglers to take what the river gives tactic-wise, be that fishing nymphs, fishing dry flies, or throwing streamers, and i still love the old wooden drift boats.
Mostly though, through fly fishing I have been fortuante to meet some truly fascinating folks and have developed many very special and life long friendships.
Oh yes, and we have caught a lot of fish...................
