A wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Frankenstein legend based on Mel Brooks’ classic comedy masterpiece, the story follows bright young Dr. Frankenstein as he attempts to complete his grandfather’s masterwork and bring a corpse to life. Together with his endearing helper Igor, his lab assistant Inga, and in spite of his incredibly self-involved fiancé Elizabeth, Frankenstein succeeds in creating a monster—but not without scary and quite often hilarious complications. With such memorable tunes as “The Transylvania Mania,” “He Vas My Boyfriend” and “Puttin’ On The Ritz,” The MEL BROOKS Musical YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN is scientifically-proven, monstrously good entertainment … and the only place you’ll witness a singing and dancing laboratory experiment in the largest tuxedo ever made.
Winner of the 2008 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award, AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY is a fraught, densely plotted saga of an Oklahoma family in a state of near-apocalyptic meltdown. Fiercely funny and bitingly sad, the American dysfunctional family drama is laced with corrosive humor. The play is a meditation on the cruel realities that often belie standard expectations of conjugal and family accord and the decline of American integrity itself. AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY may make you think twice about going home for the holidays. “Packed with unforgettable characters and dozens of quotable lines, AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY is a tensely satisfying comedy, interspersed with remarkable evocations on the cruelties and (occasional) kindnesses of family life.” —NY Sun. “This original and corrosive black comedy deserves a seat at the dinner table with the great American family plays.” —Time Magazine.
This one act Menotti opera, is a wonderful holiday story of Amahl, a precocious, disabled boy; his loving, care-worn mother; and the regal visitors who arrive one night and change Amahl’s life forever. With its beautiful score and touching libretto Amahl and the Night Visitors is appealing to all ages and musical backgrounds and is an inspiring story of how faith, charity, unselfish love and good deeds can truly work miracles.
An incessantly ringing cell phone in a quiet café, a stranger at the next table who has had enough, and a dead man—with a lot of loose ends. So begins Dead Man’s Cell Phone, a wildly imaginative new comedy by MacArthur “Genius” Grant recipient and Pulitzer Prize finalist, Sarah Ruhl. This work is about how we memorialize the dead—and how that remembering changes us—it is the odyssey of a woman forced to confront her own assumptions about morality, redemption, and the need to connect in a technologically obsessed world.
Our mission is to enhance the performing arts culture of the greater Billings region through education, development and performance.
NOVA Center for the Performing Arts came into existence when Venture Theatre and Rimrock Opera merged on May 11, 2013. A nova is a star that suddenly becomes much brighter. By joining together, our two organizations will be much brighter and our performing stars will shine. Both organizations saw an opportunity to secure a strong future by joining forces, sharing space and resources and combining the Board of Directors into one organization. This merger will allow current programs of both organizations to go forward while securing a strong financial base for the two organizations to merge and continue well into the future. The NOVA Center for the Performing Arts will offer drama, musical theater and opera under one roof. Other organizations will be able to rent space for performances or meeting space. The building will be in use almost every day of the year providing the Billings community a local space for performance arts. NOVA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
