Fly Fishing

THE GREATER YELLOWSTONE ECOSYSTEM HAS ONE OF THE LARGEST CONCENTRATIONS OF BLUE-RIBBON TROUT FISHERIES ON THE PLANET. LONE MOUNTAIN RANCH'S UNIQUE LOCATION GIVES OUR GUESTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPLORE MANY OF THEM PROVIDING AN EXCEPTIONAL FLY-FISHING EXPERIENCE. WHETHER YOU ARE AN AVID FLY FISHERMAN OR A NOVICE, OUR ORVIS® ENDORSED GUIDES WILL DELIVER A MEMORABLE TIME ON THE WATER.

The Lone Mountain Ranch fly-fishing program is based on a two-tiered structure. The primary element of this structure is fly-fishing instruction and technique refinement. The second, equally important element of our fishing program is to educate our guests about the science of fly-fishing and the entire ecosystem that the trout call home.  Your fly-fishing trip will be tailored specifically based on your interests and skill level.  Lone Mountain Ranch has a full time guide staff consisting of John Hall, Rick Reed, Kurt Dehmer, and John McKinnie. Independent contracted guides are also utilized to round out our guiding team.  All of the guides at the Ranch are dedicated to teaching our guests all aspects of the sport of fly-fishing, whether novices or experienced anglers.

Due to Lone Mountain Ranch’s unique centralized location, the most difficult part of trip planning can often times be deciding where to go fishing.  As a fishing guest at the Ranch, you can explore the wilderness of Yellowstone National Park, escape to a high mountain lake or stream in the Lee Metcalf Wilderness , travel to private spring creeks, search for “gulpers”on Hebgen Lake, or fish one of four blue-ribbon troutrivers. These rivers include the Gallatin, Madison, Yellowstone and Missouri. Each one of these rivers provide excellent and diverse opportunities to catch wild rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout.  Your guide will recommend waters based on the time of year, the insect hatches and what type of fishing experience you would like to have.

After fishing with our Orvis® Endorsed Guides, you will have a better understanding of casting techniques, basic knots, fish habitat, fly presentation and selection, as well as the biological, geological and human history of your fishing area.

Please call or stop by our Outdoor Shop to arrange your fishing trips, schedule a time to practice your casting technique or just talk fishing!
